How Do Acne Treatment Procedures Work?
Acne treatments are performed at the office and depending on the treatment can take about 60 to 90 minutes to complete. For some procedures such as laser therapy, a topical numbing cream is available if necessary. The most common procedures used to treat acne include the following:
-
Laser Therapy. Lasers shrink sebaceous glands and decrease inflamed blood vessels to improve the skin’s quality.
-
Anti-Inflammation Therapy. This therapy is designed to treat inflamed acne and cystic acne.
-
Skin Care Treatments. Professional skin care treatments are prescribed to help diminish and control acne. For more severe cases, chemical peels may be recommended to exfoliate the skin without burning healthy tissue or further aggravating the acne. And with specialized skin care products, we can prescribe a specific cleansing regimen to help maintain the skin and control acne.
In some cases, we often recommend antibiotics as well as prescription topical medications to be taken or used in combination with other therapies.
