Medical Laser Treatments
Laser skin resurfacing is a proven way to help reduce wrinkles, age spots, acne scars, and other blemishes as well as tighten skin and balance tone. But precisely because lasers can do so much, and vary widely in how they act on your skin, it is hard to know where to start when researching treatment—even the most perfunctory search reveals a slew of competing devices and methods.
We are here to help you!
Are you looking for a treatment to help reclaim your skin's youthful look, texture, and tone? You are not alone! In fact, more youthful, glowing skin is the most common request from patients all around the world. As we age, our skin changes. It loses its smoothness. Unwanted pigmentation and small vessels can appear. Over time, sun exposure can accelerate signs of aging. There are several different Laser treatments available.
Light & Bright Treatment
What is Light & Bright™
The Light & Bright™ treatment is an aesthetic treatment that can remove dark spots, reduce redness, and address textural irregularities via skin resurfacing. The treatment uses two complementary advanced technologies found on the Nordlys™ system. The Light & Bright treatment uses both a patented intense pulsed light (IPL) technology called SWT (Selective Wavelength Technology) IPL and a Frax 1550™ laser on the face and chest areas to
rejuvenate* your skin.
*Skin rejuvenation is defined as the treatment of benign pigmented lesions (pigmentation/dark spots) and vascular lesions (vascularity).
How can Light & Bright™ help me?
• Rejuvenate* sun-damaged skin
• Improve textural irregularities via skin resurfacing
• Reduce redness
• Lighten age spots, freckles, and dark spots
What to Expect?
Prior to your Light & Bright treatment, you and your healthcare provider will meet to discuss your treatment goals. It is important to avoid tanning (sun, tanning salons and self-tanning products) before and during the treatment period.
The Light & Bright treatment consists of a course of 3 sessions, but this may vary according to what will be treated. Your healthcare provider will review with you how many sessions you may need.
Your healthcare provider may use an anesthetic/numbing cream to reduce discomfort. The treatment procedure will generally take between 30-45 minutes.
After treatment, your skin may benefit from applying a cold damp cloth to your face or from using an ointment prescribed by your healthcare provider.
You may notice a sloughing off of some skin or a darkening of some pigmented spots for a few days following the treatment. After that, you will find your skin looks smoother, fresher and glowing.
Fractional Lasers
What Are Fractional Lasers?
Fractional lasers are resurfacing lasers that benefit the skin by creating columns of thermal damage in the skin. By creating columns—as opposed to allover damage—the skin is able to heal itself and regenerate itself, leading to the appearance of a revitalized complexion. Fractional lasers target both the epidermis [the outermost layer of skin] and dermis [beneath the epidermis] to reduce pigment and stimulate collagen formation, respectively. The columns of injury are interspersed with areas of normal skin, which helps speed up wound healing, decrease side effects, and reduce downtime.
Fractional lasers fall into two categories: ablative and nonablative. Where they fall depends on whether or not they affect the stratum corneum (the topmost layer of the epidermis). Ablative fractional lasers create full-thickness injury in the skin, whereas nonablative fractional lasers leave the stratum corneum intact.
Benefits of Fractional Lasers?
-
Promote collagen production
-
Speed up wound healing
-
Minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
-
Blur the appearance of scars
-
Lighten dark spots and melasma
-
Reduce the appearance of photodamage
-
Shrink the appearance of pores
-
Rejuvenate Sun Damaged Skin
-
Improve Skin Texture
-
Resurface skin by smoothing textural irregularities
Fractional lasers are able to improve the skin’s complexion from all angles, addressing everything from pigmentation and texture to signs of aging.
Fractional Lasers vs Other Lasers?
There are many different cosmetic lasers on the market, which makes them feel difficult to differentiate. Fractional lasers target facial wrinkles and textural irregularities, where there are other lasers that specifically target blood vessels and rosacea (like Sciton ProV).
Fractional lasers stand apart thanks to the manner in which they deliver energy to create maximum results with minimal downtime. The devices used offers a lot of versatility and is very customizable with the ability to go through every layer of skin. The advantage of Fraxel (fractional lasers) over other laser skin procedures/treatments is that you are not breaking the skin—the healing is rather open.
Fractional lasers offer a method for revitalizing the appearance of skin with little downtime or risk of negative side effects. As a general rule of thumb, nonablative fractional lasers are the safer bet for the vast majority of people thanks to their shallower reach. Lasers for Vascular Lesions
What are Vascular Lesions?
Skin discoloration might stop you from feeling as confident as you want to feel. If you are feeling self-conscious about your vascular skin lesions, you may be wondering how you can remove a prominent birthmark or reduce the appearance of veins to help you feel and look your best.
Vascular lesions are patches of skin that look red, blue, or purple, caused by ruptured blood vessels under the skin. Vascular lesions on your skin may be present at birth or can develop later in life. Most of the time, vascular lesions don’t need medical treatment.
You can be born with many types of vascular lesions, which is why they are commonly referred to as birthmarks. It is common for the appearance of these lesions to change over time. Port wine stains, also known as nevus flammeus, are an example of a flat vascular lesion of the skin.
Rosacea or facial redness, is a chronic condition that sometimes is misidentified as acne. Rosacea is not contagious, it is a life long condition and if it left un-treated, it can be spread and causes burning sensation in the affected areas.
You may notice small, red lines on your face and legs, sometimes referred to as spider veins. This can happen when the small capillaries under the skin bulge or enlarge. Veins can appear through the skin on anyone, but some people are more likely to have spider veins than others.
Lasers Treatment for Vascular Lesions?
Laser treatments use focused light from a laser to shrink the tiny blood vessels below the skin, reduce the appearance of vascular lesions. Lasers can precisely target the vascular lesion without damaging the surrounding area.
Vascular skin lesions can be treated with lasers in the doctor office. There are procedures that can help improve the look of many kinds of vascular conditions, such as: rosacea/redness, benign vascular lesions, spider veins, facial veins, leg veins, port wine stains, venous lakes, poikiloderma of civatte.
Laser treatments use focused light from a laser to shrink the tiny blood vessels below the skin, reduce the appearance of vascular lesions. Lasers can precisely target4 the vascular lesion without damaging the surrounding area. Lasers use short pulses of light energy to target and destroy problematic blood vessels under the surface of the skin. Before and after each laser pulse, a liquid coolant is released onto the skin, protecting the surrounding tissue, and reducing discomfort from the laser pulses. This cooling system can be adjusted to your individual needs.
Benefits of Laser Treatment for Vascular Lesions?
It is possible to improve the look of your skin and improve your confidence with laser treatments. Birthmarks are treatable and can be lightened by up to 70 to 90 percent. Laser treatment is non-invasive, and pain and discomfort during and after treatment are minimal. Treatments can be repeated every three months until you are happy with the results.
What to Expect after Laser Treatment?
You should notice results right away for small veins. It may take a few weeks for the appearance of larger veins to fade. Taking care of the affected area is important after treatment:
-
For up to 24 hours after treatment, you may have redness or other discoloration, irritation, swelling, peeling, or bruising
-
Avoid sun exposure
-
The area should be fully healed within seven days
-
The birthmark may not fully disappear, but the results are permanent
